Hygiene as Part of Dental Care
Maintaining good dental hygiene is an essential part of your oral health care. Prevention is the best cure.
4 steps of good oral health?
Regular appointments with hygienist & dentist
Brush and floss every day
Continue brushing and flossing when your gums bleed
Change your toothbrush regularly
Dental hygienists (oral health therapists) assess and treat your gums and teeth, and professionally scale and polish your teeth. They are able to access parts of the mouth that it are difficult to reach with a toothbrush or floss. They are also able to educate patients on the most effective oral hygiene techniques to maintain a fresh, healthy mouth and avoid dental decay and gum disease.
The aim of a hygienist is to help patients to maintain healthy gums and teeth, to reduce the likelihood of gum disease and prevent tooth decay. Regular dental hygiene is critical to the maintenance of good oral health.
For those with good oral health, we recommend a regular 6-monthly or annual hygiene service. For those who experience some difficulties with gum disease or have other issues with cleaning or maintaining their teeth, it may be that more regular hygiene appointments are required.
Our Hygiene Services
Our experienced dental hygienist (oral health therapist) will examine your mouth and assess the current health of your teeth and gums. She will then determine the level of treatment that you require.
Our hygienist will remove the plaque, tartar and calculus from above and below your gum line, give your teeth and gums a thorough clean, and polish your teeth.
She will also advise you on how best to take care of your teeth at home, and can provide information regarding the best cleaning techniques and products.
